One of my very favorite things in my closet is my collection of blazers, but my favorite kind of blazer to style is the boyfriend blazer! I love ALL kinds of blazers, but the mens-wear inspired look of the boyfriend blazer tops my list. And it is a HOT trend for Fall 2019 (I find them to be timeless and always in style, though!). Dress it up, dress it down, your choice! I wanted to share just a few of the ways I style a couple of the boyfriend blazers I have.
So the thing that sets a boyfriend blazer apart from all other blazers is the length and more straight fit. While most blazers are waist-length, the boyfriend blazer ends more mid thigh and has a more boxy feel. They truly are meant to resemble a traditional men’s blazer.
One of the easiest ways to up the cool factor of a boyfriend blazer is to pair it with a band tee, new or vintage. It can be any color or pattern, because it looks effortless and like you meant to mix the prints. Shop some of my favorite graphics here and here. Shop my exact blazer here and similar here.
If you are looking for a more feminine feel for your boyfriend blazer, add at least one fitted piece to your outfit to balance out the looser cut of the blazer. I added a bodysuit to achieve that fitted look (options here and here), or you can just wear a fitted tank (find my go-to $5 tank here). This look is definitely date-night ready! My exact blazer is a little older, but you can shop similar blazers here and here.
I wear leggings all the time in colder weather (shop several styles of my favorite leggings ever here). But I want my booty covered when I wear leggings, so styling a boyfriend blazer with them is a natural fit. A tunic-length tank (like this one) is the perfect length to layer your boyfriend blazer. These over-the-knee boots are super versatile and sexy, perfect for this look!
I’m finishing up with a super cute and casual look. Switch the shoes and the layer underneath for a completely different vibe for your boyfriend blazer. Graphic tees are a staple in my wardrobe, but I love to do something fun with them. Style a boyfriend blazer with your favorite graphic tee, and you have an instant cool and comfy look. Slip on tennies like these (doesn’t get any comfier and come in a bunch of colors) give you that intentionally casual look for your blazer.
Bottom line, if you don’t have a boyfriend blazer, GET ONE! They work for nearly all body types and will become one of your go-to pieces in your closet, I promise!
